| One elementary school and one secondary are within Nakusp. All secondary school students in the surrounding area attend school in Nakusp while two small elementary schools operate in communities south of Nakusp. The Nakusp Child Care Center is a non-profit organization providing a play school program and day care services to children ages three to five years. An extension of Selkirk College from Castlegar offers adult basic education courses, university transfer courses, vocational training and leisure-time courses. |
| Medical Services are modern and include a 20 bed hospital with extended care facilities, a medical clinic with three doctors, and a 26 bed intermediate care facility. The community also has a large low-cost housing complex for seniors. Nakusp Community Volunteer Services provides the area with home support workers, a family services counsellor, meals on wheels, a volunteer bureau and a woman's program. Other services are offered in Nakusp by a massage therapist, chiropractor, a dentist, an optometrist, and Social Services and Housing has a field office providing income assistance and child protection services. |

| A 12-acre park in downtown Nakusp features a senior citizens drop in center, a modern arena, a four sheet curling rink, squash courts, tennis courts, a children's playground, skatepark, three baseball fields and a municipal campground, all only minutes from the public beach. These recreation facilities draw crowds annually to hockey, curling and slow-pitch tournaments. A whole world of outdoor recreation is available in the immediate area of Nakusp-fishing, boating, hiking, swimming, camping, ice fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowmobiling and golfing. |
| Nakusp facilities are up-to-date. The Bonnington Arts Center is operated by an active arts council responsible for bringing numerous cultural events to Nakusp. The Village office facility houses an excellent public library and museum. Next door is the Tourist/Business information booth, with a paddle wheel adjacent to it. |  |
